ย Guidelines for visitors
The educational wine festival is approaching, where those of us aged 18 to 30 enter the world of Slovenian wines and wine culture. It is a special occasion with an elegant and refined atmosphere, so we invite you to experience the event in all its splendour.
๐๏ธ Preparing for the festival
Follow us on social media and our website, and secure your ticket in good time. We will help you get ready for the festival. You will find out how to dress, how to taste and enjoy the festival with good manners, when to arrive, how check-in works, what the cloakroom arrangements are and other key details.
We recommend coming to the wine festival on a full stomach.
๐๐ Dress code
The festival has a SEMI-FORMAL dress code: elegant yet comfortable, so you can relax and enjoy good company and top wines. Smart occasion wear shows respect for the event and its uniqueness.
โฐ Arriving at the event
Arriving on time means you won't miss anything. The doors open at 15:30. The last entry is at 18:30.
On arrival you will need to show an identity document and the confirmation e-mail at reception. You will then receive a badge and a wristband, which are your ticket to the event. Keep them on you at all times.
At 16:00 the official opening of the festival begins with an introductory programme. During the programme it will not be possible to enter or leave the large Union hall. The wine tasting begins after the opening.
๐ค Responsible behaviour
Enjoy wine in moderation and with respect, showing your maturity and responsibility.
๐ท Winemakers
The festival will feature 63 winemakers from different Slovenian wine regions. Each brings their own story, character and unique expression of terroir, so you can explore the richness of Slovenian winemaking in one place, from fresh, youthful wines to complex, mature styles. The festival offers a unique opportunity to meet the winemakers directly, learn about their approaches to winemaking and gain a deeper understanding of wine culture.
See the list winemakers here.
You can also download the Festival Guide, which covers wine etiquette, the floor plan of the halls and the list of winemakers.
๐ How to taste
Greet and introduce yourself to the winemaker and the other visitors at their table, then enjoy their hospitality and guidance. Before each sample, the winemaker will tell you something about the wine, themselves or interesting facts from wine culture.
Between samples we recommend asking the winemaker to pour you a sip of water to refresh your glass and stay hydrated. Before visiting the next winemaker, we recommend a more thorough rinse with the water you will find at various points around the festival. You can also neutralise your palate between samples with the grissini available on the winemakers' tables, keeping your palate fresh and the tasting at a high level.
For more tips, see the WINE ETIQUETTE at the bottom of this page.
๐ฃ๏ธ Respectful communication
Be open and curious: winemakers are happy to share their knowledge. Do not hesitate to ask questions that interest you.
๐ Share memories
Make new connections, take photos, record videos and enjoy the company of your peers. Create moments to remember. If you share photos or videos from the event on social media, tag us with @vinski_univerzum.
๐ท Glasses
For the wine tasting you can borrow an elegant Vinski Univerzum glass for a deposit of EUR 10, or buy one for EUR 5 and take it home as a souvenir of an unforgettable experience.
All borrowed glasses must be returned by 21:15.
๐ดFood
Food will also be provided at the event. Visitors can enjoy open sandwiches with selected local, quality ingredients: Karst prosciutto, homemade Primorska salami, Mortadella Bologna, organic Mahne cow's cheese (Tatre), young cow's cheese from the Pustotnik farm, Cerkvenik bakala, venison pรขtรฉ and beef tartare from the Mihevc butchery.
โ๏ธ End of the event
The event will end at 21:00. At this time all visitors without exception must leave the venue. Please understand that after the end of the event there will be no tolerance for lingering, evading or extending your stay at the venue, as the event must be able to close and clear up without disruption
Wine etiquette:
- Respect the people around you: wine is culture, so no pushiness, no put-downs and no ego moments.
- No strong perfumes or sprays: wine aromas are delicate and quickly lost.
- No cigarettes, vapes or chewing gum while tasting: they seriously spoil perception (yours and others').
- Drink in moderation and with your head: the goal is the experience, not the quantity.
- Every wine deserves a wine glass, even the cheapest one.
- Talk about wine in the first person: "to me it is..." rather than the absolute "it is...".
- Don't force your teaching on others: share a recommendation, not a verdict.
- Don't compete over who knows more: wine is not a competition.
- If you are hosting, offer to others first: that's table etiquette.
- Open the bottle calmly and quietly, with no show, and with the label facing the guest.
- Keep your glass clean: a clean glass means clean aromas.
- Don't mix glasses between different wines: if you change style, rinse or change your glass.
- Toast with care: a gentle touch or raised glass; we don't "clink" thin glasses.
- Don't treat price as a measure of quality: expensive doesn't necessarily mean better (it's about style and context).
- Don't describe wine with "diagnoses": use tastes and sensations instead (fruity, fresh, full...).
- Don't reach over others: wait your turn (the culture of the space).
